Η ανατριχιαστική στιγμή της κατάρρευσης από κάμερα ασφαλείας. Σε μερικά διαμερίσματα εκείνη τη στιγμή τα φώτα ήταν αναμμένα. Μέχρι τώρα υπάρχουν δέκα επιβεβαιωμένοι νεκροί και 151 αγνοούμενοι.Κατέρρευσαν τα 55 από 136 διαμερίσματα του 12-όροφου κτιρίου.

Παραθέτω δύο χαρακτηριστικά σχόλια: I can’t get the image of the lights on in certain apartments out of my head. Like watching the lights go out as the building collapses. Horrifying. 

Surfside City Gov't knew the condo bldg was in big trouble. But since the cost of correcting the structural deterioration of the place was prohibitive, they procrastinated. In capitalism, money & balancing the city budget takes priority over the welfare & lives of its' citizens!

Υπάρχουν βέβαια και εκείνοι που, όπως ο Έλλην δημοσιογράφος, αναρωτιούνται αν η οικοδομή ήταν ή γιατί δεν ήταν ασφαλισμένη.
